Two Japanese journalists were arrested over night when they tried to break into Christchurch Hospital to interview earthquake victims, the Canterbury District Health Board says.
The incident had been referred to police, a CDHB spokeswoman told NZPA today.
The stauts of the two journalsits remains uncertain.
A police media liason in Wellington had no information about the arrests.
Christchurch police could not be reached for comment.
Takashi Ato, first secretary for culture and information at the Japanese embassy in Wellington, told NBR he had no information whatsoever, was "very surprised" to see news of the
arrests.
"I'm not sure how much they were aware of the special zone," Mr Ato said.
