The Clemenger Group has begun its annual search for 10 graduates for its 2013 talent programme.

Presentations have been held at the University of Auckland and Victoria University, Wellington.

This week, the company took its quest to Otago University in Dunedin, and Canterbury University, Christchurch.

This is the third year of the programme, which gives students three months' experience in the group's various agencies, followed by a six-month paid placement.

Clemenger Group chief executive Jim Moser says the programme aims to get “bright, talented, motivated people into the business and particularly to our group”.

Part of the global BBDO network, the group claims to be New Zealand’s largest network of communications companies, with its 13 businesses representing more than 40% of the media market.

The successful candidates will work at Colenso BBDO, Clemenger BBDO, .99, Aim Proximity, Porter Novell and Raydar. A couple will be based in Wellington and the rest in Auckland, starting in February.

Mr Moser says the agencies aim to put graduates in a position where they can be offered a full-time role in the Clemenger Group at the end of the nine months.

“The Clemenger graduate programme is the most enlightening, exciting and frightening thing I’ve ever done. It was an invaluable crash course in all things advertising – from writing briefs and giving presentations, to going to shoots and meeting clients,” Eloise Jack, a 2011 graduate now working at Colenso BBDO, says.

Some 95% of participants in the scheme have been offered jobs at one of the group's agencies after completing their time.

Mr Moser says potential candidates must have a university degree and be graduating this November, but it does not have to be in marketing. “We would encourage diversity – the more diverse, the better.”

Entrants have until August 30 to apply and will undergo a thorough interview. Thirty finalists will then face a full day of tasks and tests.

In the first year of the scheme, 250 to 300 graduates applied, rising to 300-400 last year.
