Coffey mornings for Saturday breakfast
Tamati Coffey joins Toni Street on the breakfast couch from tomorrow.
After deciding English Breakfast was its weekday cup of tea, TVNZ is to make its Saturday show a Coffey morning.
The state-owned channel today announced that Tamati Coffey will be joining Toni Street on the couch from tomorrow.
He replaces Rawdon Christie, the British-born presenter who recently joined the weekday show after Corin Dann left to become TVONE’S political editor.
However, Coffey lovers will still be able to get their morning fix of Tamati as he will remain with the weekday show as weather presenter.
It adds to a busy schedule for Mr Coffey, who will host New Zealand’s Got Talent when it screens on later this year.
“Tamati is a talented presenter and his popularity with viewers is evident in the feedback we receive," daily programmes editor John Gillespie says.
"He and Toni are both clever and charismatic, and so Tamati will be a perfect fit for Saturday Breakfast.”
Mr Coffey, who has an honours degree in political studies from the University of Auckland, says he looks forward to presenting Saturday Breakfast, describing the shift as a “natural step for me”.
Viewers will still see him on the weekday show four days a week, with Sam Wallace presenting the weather at other times.
With this seemingly the completion of a game of musical chairs at TVNZ, which started when political editor Guyon Espiner left for TV3, it does beg the question: when does Mr Coffey, now we hear he has a politics degree, become TVONE’s political editor?
Not to mention: how long before Sam Wallace, formerly of children’s show Sticky TV, gets to have his turn?
