KPMG appoints eleven new partners

KPMG says new partners have outstanding reputations in their respective fields.

KPMG has promoted 11 new partners within the firm, who have outstanding reputations in their respective fields, reflecting the breadth of expertise and fresh perspectives they bring to the firm’s leadership. 

“With their unique skillsets and diverse perspectives, our leaders are dedicated to fuelling New Zealand’s prosperity for our clients, our people and our communities,” said KPMG NZ chief executive Godfrey Boyce.

KPMG’s new partners

Andrew Naughton – Audit partner, Auckland

Based in our Financial Services audit team, Andrew specialises in auditing banks, insurers and wealth management companies. In addition to a wide range of audit experience, Andrew has provided various risk consulting services within the sector and is passionate about supporting a stable financial services sector for his clients and the broader New Zealand economy.

Byran Theunisen – Tax partner, Auckland

Byran is a partner in our Innovation & Growth Advisory team. With over 10 years’ experience in research and development (R&D) funding, he works with businesses that are new to the government funding arena as well as those who are looking to optimise their returns. His clients are from a range of industries including manufacturing, software development, blockchain, engineering, construction and food and beverage. Byran also has long-term strategic relationships with the New Zealand Government to share his knowledge to inform policy making.

Daniel Webber – Private Enterprise partner, Timaru

Daniel is principally involved in the delivery of highly valued advisory services to privately-owned businesses including forecasting, valuations, business planning, transactions, turnaround services, financing, annual reporting and tax advice. Daniel has worked in various sectors including agriculture, food, manufacturing, hospitality, construction, finance, energy, software, childcare and retail, and enjoys creating long term relationships with clients and helping them navigate the different stages of the business lifecycle, whether they are new to business, intending to grow, intending to buy or sell, or looking for a different perspective on their business.

David Shields – Deal Advisory partner, Auckland

A partner in KPMG’s Deal Advisory practice, Dave specialises in valuations, financial modelling and capital markets transactions. He has over 12 years corporate finance advisory experience in a wide range of industries including financial services, aged-care, education and property. Dave’s experience includes providing independent valuation opinions, NZX independent appraisal reports, initial public offering assistance, options valuations, purchase price allocation advice, intangible asset valuations and business valuations for transfer pricing purposes.

Dylan Shell – Private Enterprise partner, Hamilton

Dylan has 18 years of accounting experience and works with clients across several industries on Strategy, Risk Management, Corporate Accounts Finance, Process Engineering, Business Process Improvement, Change Management, as well as assisting clients in a virtual chief financial officer capacity. He is passionate about business partnering with his clients to soundboard their business ideas and surpass their financial, business and personal goals whilst challenging clients to think outside the box.

Emma Baines – Tax partner, Wellington

Emma is a partner in our Deal Advisory, Tax practice, specialising in business restructures and mergers and acquisitions transactions, in a wide variety of sectors. She also manages the tax compliance and advisory services for a number of New Zealand and international clients with exposure to a wide range of issues. Emma's clients include businesses in finance and insurance, forestry, hospitality and retail. Emma has a keen interest in infrastructure and is a committee member for the Women's Infrastructure Network New Zealand Wellington branch.

Emma Duggan – Audit partner, Auckland/Hamilton

Emma is a partner in our Audit and Assurance team working with teams across the Auckland and Hamilton offices. She has experience across a broad range of service offerings including financial statement audit and reviews, audit of internal controls and other assurance, working with clients spanning a range of sectors across New Zealand, the USA and Ireland, including agribusiness, FMCG, construction, manufacturing and property development.

Istvan Csorogi – Deal Advisory partner, Wellington

Istvan has 20 years’ experience of strategic, commercial and financial analysis supporting deal-driven growth strategies and investments in infrastructure, technology and new service delivery models for public and private sector clients. He brings an investor’s lens focusing on value opportunities, return optimisation and risk mitigation based on data-driven decision frameworks and robust investment performance management. He has worked with clients to realise value from transactions through post-deal separation and integration planning and implementation. Istvan is passionate about unlocking growth, innovation and productivity through well planned and executed strategies and investment decisions.

Kirill Voronchev – Consulting partner, Wellington

Kirill assists clients in making robust decisions through sound risk management and assurance. Kirill’s experience spans over 15 years starting with a Big 4 in Russia and then with KPMG New Zealand. His recent experience has mostly been within the public sector and he has particular expertise in assurance, risk management, governance and integrity. In addition to his public sector expertise, Kirill is well connected to a range of clients in the financial services, energy and infrastructure sectors.

Michael Barnes – Deal Advisory partner, Wellington

Michael specialises in investment advisory and corporate advisory projects including valuation, mergers and acquisitions, financing and due diligence work. He combines his technical expertise and strong relationship skills to ensure clients consistently receive deal support and strategy advice of the highest quality, providing clients the confidence to make the right decisions. Michael has specialist knowledge in the energy, infrastructure, financial services, transport, agribusiness and consumer goods sectors.

Nicola Raynes – Consulting partner, Auckland

Nicola is the national industry leader for Financial Services at KPMG New Zealand, operating across banking and finance, insurance, wealth management and property funds. Nicola has worked in and with the financial services sector in New Zealand, Ireland and the UK, including within banking institutions with a focus on capital management and stress testing, financial and regulatory reporting, risk and compliance management and regulatory affairs. Nicola’s work as an external advisor to the industry has focused on financial, risk and regulatory management across both small and large banking and finance institutions.
