UPDATED WEDNESDAY: The Companies Office website is back online.

It was still offline - following a botched upgrade that took out 14 government websites over the weekend - when NBR checked in around 9am this morning, but back online by 10.50am.

The MED had promised a restoration of service by midday today. The ministry has yet to explain the outage.

MONDAY SEPT 26: The Companies Office is one of a number of government-run websites down after scheduled maintenance at the Ministry of Economic Development over the weekend turned into a full-blown and unresolved crash.

The MED said in a statement: “The outage occurred during preparation work on Saturday evening to upgrade the servers hosting these websites. The websites will be unavailable until at least midday Wednesday 28 September.”

As a result of the outage filing deadlines to the Companies Office have been extended by five days.

Other websites caught up in the crash include the Insolvency and Trustee Service, the Intellectual Property Office and Government Procurement Solutions.

Alastair Stewart, MED spokesman, directed users of the websites to a page outlining the current status of the problems.

"We apologise unreservedly for any inconvenience experienced as a result of this outage," he said.

Other sites listed in the MED's minimalist service notice, including Business.govt.nz, Consumer Affairs and the Motor Vehicle Traders Register, have yet to come back online.
