The Toyota Corolla is the number one selling passenger car in New Zealand, which the company says shows the company's full recovery of its international supply chain.
Corolla is the number one selling passenger car in New Zealand for the month of September and the year to date.
The sales data comes from motor vehicle registrations, from the New Zealand Transport Authority.
The data showed Corolla outsold all other passenger and commercial vehicles in September, with the Hilux coming in second. Toyota said it had four vehicles in the top 10, with the Highlander SUV and the Hiace.
Toyota general manager sales and operations Steve Prangnell said the figures reflected the full recovery of Toyota’s international supply chain, after the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
He said the company was gaining back its lead in the passenger segment, from 3.7% at the end of August to almost 6% at the end of September.
“This is below what we’re used to, due to the supply problems earlier in the year, but the key is that we are recovering, and recovering strongly. We expect to see this gap continue to grow as the year comes to a close.”
On the overall market share table for the year to date, Toyota was up 9% on its nearest rival, the company said.
In the nine months to September, the company sold about 58 00 more vehicles than its nearest rival, the company said.
