Cricket captain McCullum takes defamation action
Legal action started over the Ross Taylor captaincy debacle.
Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum is taking defamation action against former New Zealand cricketer John Parker.
Lawyers for Mr McCullum say papers will be filed in the High Court at Hamilton next week.
A statement from Chapman Tripp says Mr Parker is the author of a document called The Taylor Affair which makes "certain false and highly damaging claims about Brendon McCullum".
Mr Parker is reportedly the head of a disgruntled group of former test players pushing for reform in New Zealand Cricket after the captaincy was messily stripped from Ross Taylor.
Mr McCullum, who is in India playing for Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders, says he has no option but to take legal action.
He will fund the action himself and will not seek monetary damages.
“Mr Parker’s paper makes some very serious attacks on my integrity, my honesty and my ethics as a professional sportsman," the statement says.
"I have endeavoured to resolve these issues with Mr Parker but have been unable to do so.
"He has left me with no choice but to defend myself and my reputation this way.
“I simply want his acknowledgment that the claims he makes are completely false.”
