Cunliffe's vision: A half million dollar investment property for every 23 year old
When Mr Cunliffe himself talked, last year, of rolling back the tide of neo-liberal orthodoxy – whatever that might be – it is unlikely many of his fans interpreted this as meaning helping 23 year olds buy their first investment property.
Politics is often about symbolism and that symbolism is even more important for opposition parties – they cannot implement policy, so they need to capture people’s attention and imagination.
New Labour leader David Cunliffe is kind of hot on this sort of politics.
