PLUS: The latest iPhone 8 rumours.
Apple has scheduled a product launch — presumably its iPhone 8 — for September 12 (September 13, NZT), the Wall Street Journal says, citing "people briefed on its plans."
The company declined to comment.
Apple usually starts selling an iPhone around 10 days after it's unveiled.
The new iPhone's features are expected to facial recognition (already in Samsung's Galaxy S and Note series), and an emphasis on augmented reality (AR) software, recently identified by Apple chief executive Tim Cook as The Next Big Thing.
An edge-to-edge screen that eliminates the home button and wireless charging are also tipped (again, both features already featuring in Samsung's latest models).
Analysts are also picking that Apple will use the event to launch a new Apple Watch with a built in 4G chip, meaning it will no longer have to be tethered to an iPhone.
