Dotcom spying report must be made public – InternetNZ

Trust but verify, says chief executive Vikram Kumar.
InternetNZ chief executive Vikram Kumar is calling on the government to make a report into illegal surveillance of Kim Dotcom public.
Yesterday, Prime Minister John Key said he had referred the GCSB's warrant-less wiretaps to Inspector-General Paul Neazor, who will undertake an investigation.
“The prime minister has basically said he believes this is a one-off exception," Mr Kumar told NBR ONLINE today.
But although his assurances had to be taken at face value, the Inspector-General's report should be made public to restore confidence in our security services and government.
"Trust but verify is a Cold War term but really important in public life too," Mr Kumar says.
Painful irony
"We're disappointed the government has apparently broken New Zealand law to pursue individuals alleged to have broken US law," the InternetNZ boss told NBR yesterday.
"Combined with judicial findings on the Megaupload case to date, the irony of breaking the law to arrest people alleged to have broken the law is painful.
"It also raises the question of whether this is the full extent of law-breaking [by NZ authorities] in this case."
