Dunedin businessman Philip Broughton was today elected as the national president of BusinessNZ.
Mr Broughton has been president of the Otago-Southland Employers Association for seven years and national vice-president for two.
His new responsibilities will include providing leadership on a wide range of issues, monitoring performance and setting the direction and policy for the staff.
Mr Broughton, a partner in the Christchurch and Dunedin based business advisory and accounting firm Polson Higgs, replaces BusinessNZ president Trevor Goodwin.
He is also a board member of Ngai Tahu Tourism.
