Food prices rise at the highest rate in more than 33 years, according to Stats NZ.

Fruit and vegetable prices surged 23% in the 12 months ended February.

Overheated food prices just got charred again – rising at the highest level in more than 33 years.

Stats NZ said food prices rose 12% in February when compared with the year earlier, the biggest rise since September 1989.

There was broad growth, with fruit and vegetables up 23%, grocery food
