Trade uncertainty creates unsettling wave of volatility

ANALYSIS: For New Zealand, the risk is that a global slowdown will erode demand for exports in the US, China, Europe, and beyond.

The global trade war triggered by the US tariffs has led to a cascade of retaliatory measures.

Last week, I was in São Paulo, visiting several of Brazil’s largest companies. Every chief executive I met began the conversation by asking for my views on the current economic climate and how the so-called ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs might affect global trade.
