Education Minister Anne Tolley will leave tomorrow for Britain and France, where she will attend meeting of Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) education ministers in Paris.

The meeting will focus on tackling the effects of the economic crisis on education, matching skills to new needs, equipping effective teachers for the 21st century and reinforcing the social benefits of education.

Mrs Tolley, who is vice-chair for the meeting, said it would provide an opportunity to showcase the New Zealand education system and learn from the experiences of other countries.

She will also co-chair a public policy forum and take part in consultations with the OECD business and industry and trade union advisory committees.

The trip will also involve meeting with ministers and officials in London and Edinburgh and visiting schools.

She will return on November 8.
