Exclusive golf club spreads itself around town

Remember 2008 - the front nine of the recession, so to speak - when exclusive golf clubs had waiting lists?

Now, not so much.

The Grange still bills itself as an iconic fairway, and its promotional material notes the Auckland club has hosted the Zealand Open Championship on eight occasions. Professional David Smail rates it the home of his favoutie NZ golf moment.

From $1927 to $599
But today it's also a little easier for duffers to join.

A deal on TV3's cheesy voucher site Cudo over the weekend offered annual membership slashed from $1927 to $599.

To followers of group voucher sites, it was no particular surprise.

The Grange recently offered green fees (usually $110) for $40 on TradeMe's recently-launched deal site TreatMe (1133 people took up the offer).

A steal, but not quite as good as the $30 offer that The Grange put to GrabOne members (which had 1499 takers).

Or a $35 deal offered to members of 1-DayOut - the voucher spin off site from 1-Day, famous for its $20 "bag of crap" specials (no, we're not making this up).

It seems The Grange might be feeling the pinch. But with thousands taking advantage of its online voucher deals, at least its members will never feel lonely.
