Fairfax Media has set the pricing it will charge overseas readers to access its Australian news websites: $A15 a month.
A New York Times-style "metered" paywall will allow people to read 10 free articles a month before they have to pay.
The paywall kicks in from next Tuesday for readers from North America, Europe and the Middle East.
The publisher originally set March as the date to introduce paid online content.
Now, the scheme is for some overseas readers only.
The company says a paywall will be introduced for Australian, New Zealand Pacific Island readers of its Australian websites "mid-year."
Pricing, and the number of free articles, has yet to be set for the mid-year expansion. News Ltd's flagship, The Australian, introduced a $A13/month paywall last year.
Fairfax's flagship Austrlian titles are The Sydney Morning Herald and The Melbourne Age.
The company also publishers Stuff.co.nz, The Dominion Post, The Press, The Waikato Times, The Sunday Star Times and other papers on this side of the Tasman.
Fairfax NZ CEO Allen Williams earlier told NBR that New Zealand was a different market. He would not automatically follow the Australian paywall plans.
