Or, more correctly, chin lifts after a company in the US gained approval for a non-surgical treatment that gets rid of double chins.
Kythera Pharmaceuticals says a US Food and Drug Administration advisory panel voted unanimously in favour of an injectable drug that gets rid of adult submental fat.
Of course, women will be able to use it, too.
Kythera says its treatment, called ATX-101, will be a relief to those who have this common but under-treated aesthetic complaint that results in an older and heavier facial appearance.
Kythera shares have surged recently as the drug neared approval. It hopes to launch ATX-101 in the second half of this year.
The California company is raising $US125 million capital to fund continuing development and commercialisation. It is also making regulatory filings in Canada, Switzerland and Australia.
ATX-101 has been the subject of 19 clinical studies involving about 2,600 patients. It is a formulation of a pure, non-animal derived deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body that aids in breaking down fat.
In a recent filing, Kythera noted consumers spent nearly $US12 billion on more than 11 million surgical and nonsurgical aesthetic procedures in the US in 2013, with nonsurgical procedures accounting for 84% of the total.
