Queenstown Lakes District Council chief executive Adam Feeley is quitting his job to become a consultant.
The sometimes controversial former head of the Serious Fraud Office has told staff in a memo his three-year anniversary at the council has prompted a lifestyle re-think.
He cited the demands on personal and family life.
“I came to Queenstown Lakes to enjoy the lifestyle it offers but unfortunately this has not eventuated.
“I am at a point in my life where I want greater flexibility to get out running in the hills and spend time with my family. So I have decided to move into consulting and directorship roles which can give me the opportunities for a better balance to my life.”
He says he will leave in three months.
In his memo he claims the council is more efficient and costs have been decreased.
Mr Feeley was recently the subject of a probe by the Auditor General.
He was cleared of conflicts of interest over a housing development he plans on land near Arrowtown.
“The mayor and council took appropriate steps to manage the conflict of interest. The chief executive took no part in recommendations or decisions about special housing areas after declaring his interest.
“We also found that the conflict affected the chief executive’s ability to advise the council about special housing areas and provide leadership to council staff in this area,” the Auditor General concluded.
