The first homes in Crown-led West Auckland development Hobsonville Point went on the market on Sunday.
Within ten years the 167ha former Defence Force land will be home to 10,000 people with a marine precinct, schools and cafes.
The first of 3000 homes that will be built with Australian developer AV Jennings were on the market for sale off the plan as of last weekend, with construction due to start this week.
Properties will be built by Jennian Homes, Universal Homes, Jalcon Homes and G. J. Gardner Homes, priced between $350,000 and $700,000.
The project’s development is organised by Hobsonville Land Company. Its chief executive Sean Bignell said it was significant for the public private partnership to be ready to build.
“It is exciting to be commencing construction of the first homes at Hobsonville Point.
Already a café called the Catalina Café, some walk ways and cycle ways at the coastal development are in place. A community space, tennis courts and a park are also ready to be used alongside an information centre about the development.
“We feel the Hobsonville Point Park is of real importance and will provide a place for residents and visitors to meet for years to come,” Mr Bignell said.
“The park features a fantastic naturalistic playground that children will love, a community orchard and artworks from the highly regarded New Zealand artist John Reynolds.”
