First post-budget poll has Labour-Green block neck-and-neck with National
Support under 50% for first time in two years in OneNews-Colmar Brunton poll - meaning it would need the Maori Party's support to govern.
National's support has slipped in the first major post-budget opinion poll, released last night - leaving it short of a majority and reliant on the Maori Party support if an election were held.
A One News-Colmar Brunton poll has National slipping from 51% (in a late March poll) to 47%.
Labour climbs 4% to 33%.
The Greens are up two points to 13%.
Combined, Labour and the Greens have 46%.
NZ First was down 1% to 2%.
The ACT, Conservative, Maori and Mana parties are steady on 1%.
The poll would translate to National holding 58 seats in the 120-seat parliament (plus overhang), and the centre right block 60 assuming United Future and ACT each held their single seat - leaving the a National-led government reliant on the Maori Party to pass legislation.
Labour and the Greens would hold 59 seats.
The budget failed to attract significant controversy bar the government's push to reduce teacher ratios.
The poll surveyed 1005 eligible voters and has a margin of error of 3.1%.
