First two Crown fibre companies get chairman

Crown Fibre Holdings and Wel Networks have named professional director Rodger Fisher as chairman of Ultrafast Broadband.
The Ultrafast Broadband consortium, led by lines company Wel Networks, secured a contract with Crown Fibre Holdings for six candidate regions under the government's $1.35 billion ultrafast broadband (UFB scheme): Hamilton (including Cambridge and Te Awamutu), Tauranga, Tokoroa, New Plymouth, Hawera and Wanganui.
Mr Fisher is a former managing director of Owens Group and has chaired the Civil Aviation Authority and Aviation Security Services. He is currently chairman of the Lyttelton Port Company.
A second Local Fibre Company - NorthPower Fibre, owned by lines company NorthPower, winner fo the Whangarei contract - has also had a chairman appointed.
She is Jo Brosnahan, who a professional director and chair of a number of organisations.
Ms Brosnahan has had extensive experience as chair of Landcare Research and Leadership New Zealand, Crown Fibre Holdings said in a statement.
She is a former chief executive of both Northland and Auckland Regional Councils.
“Full scale deployment of UFB has now commenced, and we anticipate initial customer connections will come online by the end of Q2,” NorthPower chairman Wayne Moyes said.
Crown Fibre Holdings has yet to award contracts in 26 candidate regions.
Communications minister Steven Joyce has said that negotiations will be wrapped up within "weeks".
