Gen-i wins back big XT defector

Wellington's Capital & Coast DHB signs multi-million dollar deal with Telecom services unit. The "win-back" includes 1200 mobile handsets transferred to Vodafone after the bungled XT upgrade.
In the wake of XT's bungled launch, Telecom had a rough time with district health boards. Two DHBs on XT reportedly handed out 2degrees SIM cards to staff; Wellington's Capital & Coast District Health Board put a major XT upgrade on hold.
The tide has since turned, with positive buzz about iPhone 4S performance on XT cementing the network's comeback.
And there was more good news for Telecom this morning. Its Gen-i services division said it has inked a major telecommunications contract with Capital & Coast, which includes 1200 mobile handsets.
"Gen-i was the incumbent for telecommunications services to Capital & Coast DHB," Gen-i enterprise clients general manager Greg Mikkelsen told NBR.
"However, the new deal also includes a win-back of those mobile handsets from Vodafone which had been transferred off Telecom’s XT network as a result of the XT outages in 2010."
Gen-i won the four-year deal after a competitive tender.
Beyond mobiles, it covers fixed line calling, paging, maintenance and a project to introduce unified communications.
Neither party put an exact value on the deal.
Mr Mikkelson said it was a "multi-million dollar contract."
