Goff to announce reshuffle

The Labour lineup hasn't changed much since the election and leader Phil Goff wants some fresh faces.

Labour leader Phil Goff will today announce a reshuffle of his shadow cabinet, putting together the senior team he will take into the election campaign.

Except for tweaking the rankings when Chris Carter and Winnie Laban left, Mr Goff hasn't made any changes since the election and he wants some fresh faces in the lineup.

Speculation centres on promotion to the front bench for Grant Robertson, a first-term MP, and transport spokesman Darren Hughes moving up the rankings.

Other first-term MPs expected to be promoted include Jacinda Ardern, Kelvin Davis and possibly Phil Twyford.

There is also interest in what Mr Goff decides to do with Shane Jones, who has been in rehab since getting into trouble over credit card spending on pornographic hotel movies.

Mr Jones is a strong debater, capable of taking on National and the Maori Party on Maori issues, but has been muted by demotion.

Mr Goff needs him back and is likely to give him a chance to prove himself, although he isn't likely to replace Parekura Horomia as Labour's Maori affairs spokesman.

David Shearer, who won the Mt Albert by-election, could also feature.

Labour had a good intake of new MPs at the last election and Mr Goff's comments that he has a wealth of fresh talent means some are going to be disappointed.
