Google has introduced a $US5 a month 'flexible' version of its Google Apps for Business product, which includes email, calendar, word processor and spreadsheet programmes.
Formerly, the commercial version of Apps has only been available under a $US50 per user as a 12-month committment (users worldwide are billed in US dollars).
For those slower at maths, $US5 a month works out to $US60 per year.
Local cloud commentatory Ben Kepes, of Diversity, told NBR, ""In my view pricing isn't a barrier to higher uptake of Google apps. $US50 a year is minimal and I would be surprised if businesses in New Zealand decided to not go down the Google path just because they need to commit for a year. That said, I am a fan of monthly pricing as it ties in nicely to other software-as-a-service applications - not to mention other utility bills."
Signature New Zealand clients for the commercial version of Google Apps include NZ Post, and its fully-owned subsidiary Localist, which has around 100 staff using the product (see more on Localist's cloud-heavy set-up here).
Google Apps is best known as a free product. Its business version adds extra storage, support foor personalised domain names and an uptime guarantee.
