Government to amend Bill of Rights Act

The change won't force Parliament's hand to overturn court decisions.

The government intends changing the law to require Parliament to respond when senior courts find legislation is inconsistent with the Bill of Rights Act.

At the moment Parliament can ignore the courts even when they make declarations of inconsistency under the Bill of Rights.
