New Zealand-owned petrol retail chain Gull this morning followed suit with BP, Mobil, Caltex, and Z – raising its 91 octane price four cents a litre.
Gull raised the price of 91 octane to $2.179 per litre, up four cents a litre from $2.139 - a bigger jump but still 2 cents a litre cheaper than its competitors.
The others lifted the 91 octane pump price last week by three cents to $2.19 a litre.
Traditionally, Gull has undercut other retailers.
The Gull website had not been updated as this story was posted, still showing Gull's intention not to follow the petrol price hikes.
Gull retail manager Graham Stirk, says on the site: “while oil prices are climbing sharply, there is no need for an immediate reaction at this stage.”
The other suppliers justified raising their pump prices last week by referring to “higher commodity prices” and a “weakening” kiwi dollar.
