Mana's Hone Harawira is favoured to win the Te Tai Tokerau by-election, but his vote share will be only 1% ahead of Labour's Kelvin Davis, according to Victoria University's iPredict political marketplace, which takes bets on the outcome of electoral races and other evetns.
Mr Harawira is expected to receive 41.1% of the vote, with Labour's Kelvin Davis a close second with 40.1%.
The government-allied Maori Party's Solomon Tipene is expected to receive 18.0% of the vote.
The results mirror those of a Maori TV poll of 500 eligible voters near the start of the month-long, which had Mr Harawira and Mr Davis in a statistical dead-heat.
At the 2008 general election, Mr Harawira (then with the Maori Party) beat Mr Davis by more than 6000 votes.
