Hone Harawira failed to be sworn into Parliament this afternoon when he declined to read out the MPs affirmation which is a legal requirement.

Speaker Lockwood Smith then asked Mr Harawira to leave the chamber and said he could return to be sworn in on the next sitting day he was willing to comply with the affirmation.

There was further disruption when singing broke out in the public gallery. Dr Smith apologised for interrupting this but said Parliament's protocols had to be complied with.
