Health and safety fines average $155,000 post new legislation

In 2017, the average fine handed down for a breach under health and safety rules was $155,400 for companies found guilty under the new Health and Safety at Work Act.

The act, aimed at reducing workplace injury and death by 25% by 2020, came into force in April 2016.
