In the end, NZ versus Scotland was a tight game.

The Black Caps made hard work of their modest run-chase in the World Cup pool game, winning by just three wickets.

But if you were getting a little nervous toward the end, spare a thought for the punter who put $40,000 on NZ to win.

And even though we squeaked in, the short odds meant there wasn't much of a payoff.

The big spender picked up $800, TAB bookie Mark Stafford tells NBR.

Stafford also has an interesting stat on betting overall: around 66% have put money on NZ winning the World Cup.
