Heavy fog in Auckland disrupts flights


Auckland's fog blanket causes airport chaos.

UPDATED: Heavy fog that forced a number of flights into and out of Auckland Airport to be cancelled has lifted.

The fog resulted in chaos at the airport this morning, with dozens of domestic flights being cancelled and delayed.

However, the fog has now lifted and domestic flights scheduled to arrive at the airport this afternoon are on time, according to Auckland Airport's website.


Heavy fog has caused disruption to flights in and out of Auckland Airport, causing some to be cancelled and others delayed.

A number of flights from Hong Kong due to arrive this morning have been delayed.

Several early flights from Auckland to Sydney have been cancelled.

Domestic flights to Taupo, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Tauranga are among those cancelled, according to the Auckland Airport website.

Other flights to Gisborne, Napier, Whangarei, Rotorua, Bay of Islands, Whakatane and a later flight to New Plymouth have also been cancelled as a result of the fog.

Flights into Auckland from Whangarei, Bay Of Islands, Whakatane, Gisborne, Palmerston North, Wanganui, Nelson, Christchurch, Taupo, Tauranga, Napier and New Plymouth have all been cancelled.

Air New Zealand is expected to release further information shortly.

The fog has also caused traffic delays on Auckland’s motorways.
