As NBR ONLINE reported exclusively last Friday, former Russell McVeagh partner Mike Heron is confirmed as the new solicitor-general.
Mr Heron replaces David Collins, who was made a High Court judge in March.
Deputy solicitor-general Matthew Palmer quit last week after finding out he was not getting the top job.
Mr Heron, whose clients included the late Allan Hubbard, is regarded as a good choice and a lawyer with extensive experience in the real world.
His five-year term starts in September and he will oversee implementation of decisions following a review of the Solicitor General’s functions.
Mr Heron's most recent high-profile work has been on the late Alan Hubbard's battles with the Serious Fraud Office, and also for Pyne Gould Corporation in the royal commission inquiry into the collapse of that company's building in the Christchurch earthquake.
He was also lead partner for the Rugby World Cup and has been chairman of the board of Drug Free Sport New Zealand.
