ACT Party leader Rodney Hide says he supports Prime Minister John Key and does not believe he has his head in the sand.
ACT MP Sir Roger Douglas yesterday issued bright yellow flyers that asked who is "really ambitious" for New Zealand and criticised Mr Key for not being market-focused enough. They featured a smiling Sir Roger and a picture of a man with his head in the sand which is captioned "John Key, looking to catch Australia".
Mr Hide said the ACT Party was against government policies such as the GST increase, foreshore and seabed legislation and the emissions trading scheme.
"I think Roger Douglas is expressing a concern that we have over the fact that we're not doing enough in government to get on top of government expenditure and to reduce the extraordinary burden of government on business and hardworking families.
"The National Party, if you like, are straddling the middle and adopting largely Helen Clark, Michael Cullen-type policies. The ACT Party says we've got to do much better."
However, Mr Hide said he supported Mr Key.
Asked if he agreed Mr Key had his head in the sand, Mr Hide said no.
