HSBC appoints Eddie Christian as head of southern for commercial banking, New Zealand

HSBC has appointed Eddie Christian as head of southern for commercial banking in New Zealand, effective November 28, 2017.

In this newly created Wellington-based role, Mr Christian is responsible for HSBC’s corporate clients in both the South Island and lower North Island, and will also manage the commercial banking team in the capital. He will report to Rob Roughan, HSBC’s head of commercial banking, New Zealand.

Mr Christian joins HSBC New Zealand from HSBC in Qatar, where he was country head of corporate client coverage. Prior to that he worked for BNZ in New Zealand for six years, most recently as managing partner – Wellington for the BNZ Partners business with responsibility for their relationship teams across corporate, commercial and mid-market enterprises in the Wellington region.

Commenting on the appointment, Rob Roughan said, “Eddie’s hire is a key component of our strategic decision to create a larger presence in Wellington to further improve our service to clients in the South Island and lower North Island.”

“HSBC’s key competitive advantage is its ability to connect businesses globally via its international network, and Eddie’s local and international commercial banking experience make him well placed to facilitate the cross-border business requirements of corporates in New Zealand,” he added.
