Legal representatives for embattled Timaru financier Allan Hubbard have asked the Serious Fraud Office for more time.
Russell McVeagh partner Michael Heron said he asked for more time to put additional information before the SFO. "Some of that information is not able to be provided until after Christmas and accordingly Mr Hubbard has asked the SFO to delay any decision until the New Year," he said.
Mr Heron said the delay was agreed to by SFO director Adam Feeley.
Mr Heron said his client's defence was complicated by the imposition of statutory management that has frozen his assets. "Mr Hubbard continues to deny any criminal wrongdoing. The Statutory Managers have not paid any of his defence costs to date and this continues to cause difficulties," he said.
Mr Heron said Mr Hubbard would make no further comment on the matter.
