Private equity firm TPG Capital, in the midst of a hostile back-door takeover battle for MediaWorks, has reportedly hired the broadcasters’ former chief executive as an adviser.

Brent Impey headed the broadcaster from 2000 until 2009 and is understood to have clashed with current owners Ironbridge, who acquired the company in 2007.

Since leaving MediaWorks Mr Impey has served as a director on the board of directory firm Yellow, another company with a history of troubled private equity ownership. This week Yellow announced it was shedding 20% of its workforce in an effort to focus more on its digital business.

Mr Impey also moonlighted as a host on RadioLive, but his role with TPG has ended this role.
