The Insurance Council of New Zealand has picked a replacement for long-serving chief executive Chris Ryan.

Mr Ryan, a well-known spokesman for the industry, will leave the council in December.
He will be replaced by Tim Grafton, executive director at market research company UMR Research.
He is a former political reporter, political adviser and chief adviser to former Prime Minister Dame Jenny Shipley when she was leader of the opposition.
Mr Grafton takes up the role on November 12, representing the insurance industry to the government and the public, and Mr Ryan will continue at the council until the end of the year.
Recruitment agency Heidrick and Struggles led the search for Mr Ryan’s replacement.
Mr Ryan has previously told NBR ONLINE that the biggest challenge for a new CEO would be to finish dealing with the Christchurch earthquakes because it was still a very sensitive issue with many legal considerations.
He said the upcoming Insurance Prudential Supervision Act, which means insurers will be subject to Reserve Bank regulation, would also need special attention.
