The Earthquake Commission has opened an international tender for a company to run the rebuild of areas damaged by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake of September 4.
New Zealand companies are also invited to submit tenders in a process the commission hopes to get through as quickly as realistically possible.
The successful tender will manage all repairs worth up to the Earthquake Commission’s cap of $100,000 while more costly jobs will go through commercial insurers.
The Commission wants the company that wins to tender to deal with all aspects of the repairs it is assigned including the resource consent process.
“It will help manage resources equitably and ensure high standards of construction are maintained,” Earthquake Commission chief executive Ian Simpson said, adding it would be like a “one stop shop” for the under $100,000 repairs.
The commission has received more than 76,000 claims for Canterbury earthquake damages so far.
