Apple boss Steve Jobs may have given an extremely detailed press conference on his company's Grip of Death solution for US iPhone 4 buyers - which included a free bumper case offer.
The bumper case prevents your hand making contact with the lower left of the handset's external antenna, which has at times caused dropped calls or degraded reception.
But just days away from the iPhone 4's July 30 New Zealand launch, Australasian reps are clueless.
At Apple's official iPad briefing today, NBR asked if the iPhone 4 would be sold in New Zealand with a free bumper case (Vodafone thought this solution likely, but referred to inquiries to Apple).
One of two staff over from the company's corporate office in Sydney offered that they had yet to her the final word from Apple HQ in the US - and didn't necessarily expect to until the last possible moment:
"I honestly just don't know. We might not find out until 12 hours before the launch."
The Aussie Apple reps need to school up on Steve Jobs July 17 brief.
Asked by Ars Technica (see 11.24am entry) "will the free case offer extend outside the US?", Jobs replies, "Yes, it's international".
Meanwhile a number of potential customers have contacted NBR saying they're irked that the iPad is not yet available for sale via Apple's NZ website, as it is in Australia.
