Economic Development Minister David Carter has called Jade Software's JOOB mobile platform a "shining example" of innovation in the New Zealand technology sector.

He today launched the beta version of the JOOB mobile plaftorm which connects any business system with any mobile device.  Using a set of native client libraries, available for AppleiOS, Windows Phone 7, Android and JavaSript, developers can access the JOOB mobile framework.

This means JOOB provides a middleware solution for developers, whether in-house or external, which includes security and access to business systems from any mobile operating system.

Developers can then concentrate on creating the user experience end product, rather than the nuts and bolts of connecting the mobile device and the business systems.

Social networking sites and analytics can also be made available from the mobile platform.  Any business systems can be integrated and aggregated and connected to any device, said international marketing manager Daniel Clouston.

JOOB Mobile, as the global platform is called, was launched in Christchurch and is available around the world. JOOB has had funding assistance from the Ministry of Science and Innovation and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, as well as help from NZTE's Beachheads programme, enabling roll out in the US.

Mr Carter praised Jade Software for its innovation and said the potential growth from JOOB will have an immediate flow-on effect in the New Zealand ICT sector.

"For New Zealand to grow and compete internationally, we need more companies like Jade developing smart products and solutions that keep pace with global trends in business intelligence and smartphones."

Mr Carter said the development of JOOB Mobile showed an internationally successful tech company can go head-to-head on the world stage from New Zealand.
