UPDATE: InternetNZ said this afternoon that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bill English has joined the NetHui line-up.
June 4: Communications Minister Steven Joyce and Attorney General Chris Finlayson have been added to the speaking list for InternetNZ's 'NetHui 2011', to be held at Auckland's SkyCity June 29 - July 1.
The NetHui has nothing to do with Maori interests. Rather, InternetNZ chief executive Vikram Kumar told NBR, the name is a reference to the low-cost, democratic nature of the event (while two and three-day conferences typically cost hundreds of dollars, tickets to the NetHui cost just $34.50).
Mr Joyce will deliver the keynote. Mr Finlayson present at a panel discussion on "Globalisation, the Internet and the Law" along with Harvard Professor Lawrence Lessig, Judge David Harvey, Google Head of Public Policy Asia Pacific Ross Lajeunesse, and IP Lawyer Rick Shera.
The conference will also feature a keynote from Prof Lessig and a specially arranged screening of the "The Virtual Revolution" - a documentary series that feature such cyber luminaries as Tim Berners-Lee, Stephen Fry, Jeff Bezos and Steve Wozniak.
Topics to be discussed include The Law of the Net, Copyright, Cloud Computing, Privacy for business, Cybersafety, 21st Century Parenting, Digital Inclusion, Civic Engagement, Future of Content and Media, Teaching the Teachers, Open Government Data, IPv6 and IPv4 exhaustion and Emergency response (full details are at www.nethui.org.nz/session-outlines).
Over 250 participants have already registered and spaces are limited, InternetNZ said.
