Ken Ring's Christmas Day forecast
Are you going to reach for the jacket or the jandals? The controversial weather forecaster makes his call.
Controversial weather forecaster Ken Ring, known as the Moon Man, has made his call on what promises to be a hot, dry summer.
Random House, publisher of Mr Ring's popular annual weather almanac, says there will be some unusually warm days in December and January.
Mr Ring says there are only two rain days left this year in the North Island and three or four for the South Island.
Christmas Day will be fine and dry in nearly all areas of New Zealand, he says, while the new year opens wet for most.
"The North Island bathes in sunshine for the first half of January, as does the South Island for the second half of January," he forecasts.
In February, the last 10 days are fine for the South Island and the last week is fine for the North Island.
Autumn will be wet and warm with March and April bringing "much rain and some flooding in parts".
Mr Ring's earthquake predictions, based on lunar patterns, terrified some Christchurch residents last year and earned a rebuke from the Government's chief scientist, Sir Peter Gluckman.
He has been making weather forecasts, also based on lunar cycles, for 15 years.
