Business Roundtable executive director Roger Kerr has revealed he has a life-threatening cancer but aims to carry on regardless.

Mr Kerr, who has run the big business lobby group since its inception in 1985, revealed his illness on TV3’s The Nation current affairs show at the weekend.

“I was diagnosed last October with metastatic melanoma,” he told interviewer Sean Plunket.

“That’s a pretty deadly cancer … but if the time has come to sign off, well you know it comes for all of us at some point of time, but I've had a great life.”

Mr Kerr said he has had a “wonderful career,” “wonderful friends” and has a “terrific job.”

In January 2010 he remarried (to Catherine Issac) and has a 15-month old grand-daughter in Seattle.

“I want to live,” he said. “I've still got a lot of work that I want to do, so unless and until such time comes as I have to fold the tent, I'll be carrying on.

“I'm exploring all sorts of possibilities all around the world for treatment, and I guess I've slain a few dragons in my time, and I'm gonna give this one a good old fight.”
