Repeating the line, "News of the World tabloid tactics," Prime Minister John Key today announced he is taking the Herald on Sunday to the police.
Mr Key said there was nothing embarrassing on the tape of his meeting with ACT Party's Epsom candidate.
The tape was made by a freelance cameraman working for the Herald on Sunday. That newspaper revealed it had the tape, the contents of which editor Bryce Johns described as a "game-changer" in the election, but which the newspaper mysteriously decided not to publish yesterday.

Mr Key told a press conference at Parliament this afternoon he would be lodging a complaint with the Police at 4pm today.
"This is a very serious matter in my view...it is my view they definitely broke the law. Questions have been lodged [with the newspaper] and they have not been adequately answered."
Mr Key repeated his view there is nothing on the tape which would embarrass either himself or Mr Banks and said he did not believe the tape contained anything damaging.
If it had been a "game changer", as claimed, he said, "they would have published it."
