Leader strikes populist note in his response to the PM's election announcement.
Labour will campaign for the November election on "the issues that are affecting New Zealanders most," party leader Phil Goff said today, striking a populist note in his first response to the PM's announcement.
"We know that people are worried about the soaring cost of living with prices rising much faster than wages. That will be a key issue this election," he said, reacting to news that Prime Minister John Key has called the general election for November 26.
“Labour’s priority is to help those who are struggling to pay their bills, to create jobs and to grow the economy for the benefit of all New Zealanders," Mr Goff said.
“Labour has already released some key policy ideas, including its plan to create a fairer tax system that cracks down on dodgers while giving all New Zealanders financial relief through a tax-free zone. It has also set out a five point plan for economic growth, including prioritising research and development, investing in skills and trade training, building savings, changing the way the Reserve Bank works and actively managing the economy.”
