A decision on whether state-owned Landcorp Farming will bid for the 16 Crafar farms being sold by receivers is expected to be made at a board meeting today.
Bids for the 13 dairy farms and three drystock properties are due by 4pm on Wednesday.
Landcorp chief executive Chris Kelly said the company would have a board meeting today and depending on the outcome may put in a bid, according to media reports.
Landcorp chief executive Chris Kelly said last month the farms had been valued but it would not be offering the big money Chinese company Natural Dairy was rumoured to have negotiated with receivers KordaMentha.
Natural Dairy, fronted by New Zealand-registered UBNZ, has an agreement with the receivers to buy the Crafar farms, but it is conditional on Overseas Investment Office consent.
Tenders for the Crafar farms were extended for two weeks to July 7.
At the time the receivers said pushing out the deadline would allow those parties more time to complete their due diligence checks.
