Christchurch interiors firm in voluntary liquidation

Second construction firm goes down.

A second building company has gone under this week, with Maven Interiors, known as M-INT, being placed into voluntary liquidation on Tuesday.

Neither Maven Interiors director Allan Tribble nor liquidator Andrew Oorschot could be reached for comment, but a voicemail on the firm’s main phone said it was moved into voluntary liquidation and a liquidator would respond to any claims within seven days..

Maven Interiors, formerly known as Simple Solutions Intex said on its website it had grown from a simple interiors firm to an interior construction firm working with top firms.

Its website, which has since been taken offline, had boasted it hired more than 40 specialist tradespeople, making it one of the largest labour forces in the Canterbury interiors market.

Recent projects include the Christchurch Justice and Emergency Precinct, an 88-room Sudima hotel and an extension to Hornby Mall.

Mr Tribble, who is also president of the Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries has been in the construction industry since he was 17. His wife Hayley had resigned as a director last month.

Bad day for construction
The news follows the collapse of Ebert Construction, which receiver John Fisk says is likely to leave a shortfall with about $40 million owning.

Ebert held $3.5m in retentions but it is unclear whether receivers will get to distribute those funds.

Ebert, which employs 95 staff, was known for farming construction projects but had more recently expanded into Auckland.

Mr Fisk says 15 construction sites had to be secured but receivers will work with sub-contractors across the next 24 hours to return personal property.

Key projects for Ebert Construction include Middlemore Hospital, Union Green Apartments in Auckland’s CBD, and a 16-apartment complex for Housing NZ in Northcote.

It also had contracts for the Indian High Commission in Wellington, Remutaka Fire Station in Upper Hutt, a project for bacon makers Premier Beehive in Carterton, and a plant for Graphic Packaging in Auckland.
