Court finds electricity regulator made $130m error

A decision to apply "scarcity pricing" of $10,000 a MWh one night in the winter of 2021 is over-ruled after a challenge by Haast Energy.

The ruling follows a near-blackout during a period of high power demand in August 2021.

The High Court has scolded the Electricity Authority over a decision to allow sky-high “scarcity prices” during a grid emergency in August 2021.
