The leaders of China, Germany and Canada will visit New Zealand in coming weeks.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will both be in Auckland Friday next, November 14, ahead of the G20 meeting of world leaders in Australia.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a longer visit, with a large delegation, from November 19-21 after the summit. It is the first visit by a Chinese head of state to New Zealand since President Hu Jintao’s visit in 2003.

He will visit both Auckland and Wellington for a series of official engagements, including events that will showcase bilateral trade, economic and cultural links.

Ms Merkel’s visit will be the first to New Zealand by a German chancellor since Helmut Kohl’s in 1997. She will give a lecture at the University of Auckland and meet New Zealand and German business representatives.

Mr Harper will be the first Canadian leader to visit here in almost 20 years. He will be formally welcomed at Government House and participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the Auckland War Memorial Museum,

Prime Minister John Key visited Canada in 2010.
