Auckland mayor Len Brown has announced how 992 people who missed part or all of the September 9 opening ceremony and opening match of Rugby World Cup due to public transport chaos will be compensated with tickets to other matches.

People who registered, and whose claims have been verified, after missing out on the opening ceremony and part or all of the New Zealand versus Tonga opening match will be offered a ticket to semi-final 1 on Saturday October 15.

Others who registered, and whose claims have been verified, after missing out on all or part of the opening ceremony will receive a ticket to the bronze final on Friday October 21.

“We have arrived at a package that we think is fair to those who were caught up in the unprecedented opening night delays,” says Mr Brown. “We know we can’t make up for the experience that was missed, but hope this gesture of goodwill is received in the spirit in which it is made.“
